Adele Island Beaches Kayak & Walk

Itinerary

Kayak to see seals and birds on Adele Island. Cruise or walk to explore Anchorage and Te Pukatea Bay. Minimum age 12 years.

9am  Check in at our Kaiteriteri ticket booth.

9.20am  Boat departs Kaiteriteri to cruise into the protected waters of the Astrolabe Roadstead.

9.40am  Disembark at Observation Beach where your friendly, expert guide settles you into a stable double kayak with full instructions and safety brief. Then, it's onto the water to explore and have fun.

Paddle to Adele Island, a predator-free sanctuary alive with birdsong. The island is home to seals, penguins and other birds including one of New Zealand's rarest birds, the South Island Saddleback (Tīeke). Explore the coast of Adele Island, then return to Observation Beach.

1pm  Walk from Observation Cove to Anchorage Beach (approximately 1 hour).

At Anchorage Beach Department of Conservation Hut and campsite has shelter, picnic tables, and modern toilets.

Maps at the hut show directions for the Pitt Head Loop Walk (4km) where you're rewarded with panoramic coastal views on the track to Te Pukatea Bay, one of the most picturesque bays in the park.

Return to Anchorage Beach for your pick up.

3.35 or 5.20pm   Depart Anchorage.

4.15 or 6.00pm  Return to Kaiteriteri.
