In co-operation with the Gentle Cycling Company in Nelson, let us take you on a trip combining all our favourite adventures!

We'll sort your accommodation, bike hire (including helmet), luggage and bike transfers, so you can focus on enjoying the fun (and food!) of the Tasman Great Taste Trail – mostly flat and easy, and suitable for riders of most abilities.

Included: bike hire, helmet, trail maps with route notes, and luggage transfers
Lunches and dinners are not included in the cycling trip so you can choose from the extensive range of cafes, vineyards and restaurants along the way.

Day 1: Nelson to Mapua

From Nelson, head off along the Tasman’s Great Taste Cycle Trail taking in the highlights of your choice.

  • arts and crafts to inspire

9.30am  Shuttle transfer from Nelson central to our cycle specialists for your pre-ride briefing. Pick up your 21-speed comfort bike with fitting and adjustment to suit you. Your pre-tour briefing will explain all the options for cycling to Motueka.

Lunch  Cross the Mapua estuary from Rabbit Island to Mapua Wharf. Relax and explore the vibrant Mapua community including bars, cafes, restaurants, museums and galleries.

3pm–4pm  Check in at your accommodation in the heart of Mapua village.

Dinner  Choose your dining style in Mapua. There is casual or fine dining on the wharf or on the beach. Boutique bars have social and relaxed dining.

Day 2: Mapua to Motueka

So many choices!

  • orchards, vineyards & market gardens set in rolling hills with panoramic coastal views
  • cafes, restaurants & bars – all with their own special setting and atmosphere
  • local arts and crafts including notable pottery
  • optional detour to Kina Peninsula (approximately 5km) for art & vineyards
  • Motueka foreshore, Raumanuka Reserve & sandspit

Plan the day to suit yourself and arrive in Motueka any time up until 6pm.

3pm–4pm  Check-in at your accommodation.

Before 6pm  Please call into Wilsons Abel Tasman Motueka office before 6pm to confirm your arrangements for the following day. Your overnight lodge luggage bags will be delivered to your overnight accommodation in Motueka.

Day 3: Motueka to Kaiteriteri & into Abel Tasman

Cycle the Great Taste Trail from Motueka to Kaiteriteri passing tidal inlets, orchards, cafes and a boutique brewery in the rural town of Riwaka.

Plan your cycle trip to arrive at Kaiteriteri at 12.30pm. The final section of the Great Taste Trail is a 3.1km 'Easy Rider' trail through beautiful Kaiteriteri Mountain Bike Park, weaving through forest to the golden sands of Kaiteriteri. Vehicle support is available if you would like to avoid this section.

12.30pm  Meet your cycling support team at Kaiteriteri and leave your bicycle with them. Your Abel Tasman guide greets you with lunch and a pre-trip briefing. There is time to re-organise your luggage.

From Kaiteriteri, you join our lodge-based multiday trip in Abel Tasman National Park.
